Well.... what a day!
forecast was rain rain rain......how they can get it wrong!
Copo for some reason had bagsied garage 13!

we had a wet first session, then a dry line appeared in the second session, so the wets came off and supercorsas went on.
thumbsup

Bike had a flat spot and misfire like the other month in the early sessions, we couldnt figure out what it was, so carried on regardless....it cleared it self by session 3 though!err

other than that the bike felt really good...very planted and lots of feel...not bad for a standard suspended bike!... felt like I was one of the quicker boys in intermediates, although there were 1 or 2 who were quicker, one of which was Rich on his rsvr in our garage who should hopefully be joining up on here thanks to one of the TDR banners!:o%29

I managed to borrow copo's bluetooth GPS for a session and set my phones racechronon off...
managed a 2:02.0 clap with an optimum from the fastest of the 4 different sectors of 2:00.7!!! finally I have an idea how fast Ive been going!

Made up with that as it was the session after having a "moment"whistle at Island bend...

few other "moments" where a big wiggle out of druids,

managed to tip in too early for Lodge and rode over the apex kerb!oops

and ran straight on at hissies on the brakes dicing with another lad....I couldve made it but it wouldve looked like a sh*te overtake as I'd have scrubbed all my speed off...whistle

2nd to last session was alot quieter...managed to have a lap or 2 of minimal traffic, and I reckon I broke the 2:00 barrier after pysching myself up for island and braking very late for hissies and nailing shell, fulstons, clayhill and druids!.....BUT.......

...I'd passed the gps receiver back to Mark, so I have no proof..thumbsdown

had some good dices throughout the day with a fluro yellow gsxr.. tried to find him but he was never near the bike in the paddock!dunno

Made up. couldnt have gone better...our new van did its thing. the bike went well(apart from the morning), and I feel Ive made an improvement, and more importantly....know where I can improve!

heres my dad, Kev(pitcrew on here) who also rode the bike in novice today!

and me heading up clay hill in the morning

some pics here too....

nope. My arse twitched like!

I knew I was dropping a gear and then dabbing the brakes and I know I dont need to...

So I held the gas on for longer then just rolled off and as I dropped a gear and sat up the bike got unsettled and my foot wasnt on the peg right, it made me tip in late, so i kept it rolled off and rode around the outside. phew!wall

I still havent got it cracked.. anyone got a youtube to the right method?

It's a massive commitment corner. Your brain just screams, "Going too fast!"

What worked for me was not braking for these corners, but instead rolling off the throttle. You'll naturally start by doing this a LONG way before the corner and then roll off closer and closer to the corner. That way you don't 'scare' yourself, and the bike is nice and composed because you haven't been on the brakes. Eventually you'll just roll off a tad to help the bike turn, then get back on the throttle to balance the bike.

Nice one Mark and well done on the improvements.

I agree with Brian, Island isn't the place to have an off, mind you not many corners are at Oulton.

As someone who has gone down hard at Island after missing my braking point and running wide, I have to agree as well.........

Got to oulton 7.15 to a very wet and rainy course
got set up in garage 5 and got the wets on
this was only my second go on my trackbike and
the first after demolishing it at mallory
oh and also first time I ridden in wets !
Me and my pal dayo couldn't get into inters
so had to go into novice.which was weird after
being in inters last time !
First session was pretty much sighting laps
and one lap,I wasn't happy on the bike-brakes
were jerky,bouncing about and overheating.
Sorted the overheating issue, brakes bedded in a bit
second session was 90% dry and was starting to
pick up the pace.
Missed session 3 changing back to dry tyres
then session 4 was cancelled and an early lunch
had a great afternoon and Paul owen came out
and I followed him a bit and picked up a brilliant line
through Druids, bike went brilliant-just needs the
suspension sorted now as it's set up for a 5 stone boy
next outing 9/10 august 2 dayer at cadwell
should have suspension sorted by then.
Oh and I desperately need some decent paddock stands
well a front one most important.
Met a few peeps there from tdr and nwb came
down for support/laugh/pisstake

roll on cadwell

on a postnote..
This was only able to be done thanks to the
excellent mechanical skills and hard work
done by chris r
I dedicate my sore arms to you sir !

It was recently joined member JDI45 and friend of mine. I was told that he came off at Shell and nutted the floor knocking himself out and when he was taken to the medical centre they suspected he had back injuries.

Last I heard at the end of the day was that they were keeping him in overnight due to the concussion, hadn't suffered any back injuries, but had cracked a couple of ribs.

Think he came off about 5 places before me, he was in a very odd spot - about 25% of the way into the hairpin lay on his front knocked out..  Quite why they only waved yellows foe the first couple of minutes is a mystery.

No idea what really happend, but if I had to guess I'd say he was tipping it in and someone was underneath him - there were tyre marks on the back of his bike..

Hope he gets well soon..

Apart from that - great day in the inters group. Bike was well planted by the afternoon and was on the pace with about 95% of people in the group :-)

Black leathers yep, Doohan rep lid.. Seem to remember the RSVR - you? Those big bikes - mega on the straights, but lets try it through the bends ;-)  Proved even more by me versus an RS250 lol! Only my second year riding so still taking it a little easy ..

And to whoever passed me on the back wheel coming over the brown after the hairpin - nice move, was giggling for at least another last..

Hi Richard, good to meet you yesterday, I was the old man sharing the bike with my eldest lad Mark. Your bike sounded really sweet around the circuit with those pipes, tempted me to use mine next time?? Good luck at Croft, hope the weather holds well for you, go to 'Future Trackdays' section, as people usually make a point of posting if they are going to certain TD's and it's good to meet up with other TDR's they are all a good bunch!!
welcome

Unfortunately 'twas I who stopped the session. Don't remember a thing for about an hour after the crash, but it was a moments indecision that caused it.
I was following a 'pupil' who had passed a slower rider exiting island, because of the other riders pace and track position I thought he was cruising, so went to go up the inside for shell, then he decides to turn in. If I had been out there for myself I would have just gone up the inside and sat him up, but because paying customers don't take too kindly to that I decided to brake and follow him round, only he was going much slower than me and came across, taking my front wheel. His story was that he'd passed me round island and then just felt me tag him. I know I took a hefty bang to the head, but I still can't see how you run into the back of someone who's going quicker than you.err
Discharged yesterday, broken ribs, partially collapsed lung, biggest hangover headache and I'm sure everyone had had a go at beating me all over with a big stick while I was ko'd. They kept me in because I declined a chest drain, had one a few years back, and that was without broken ribs. Anyone who's had one will tell you, the injection before they put the drain in is to be avoided at all costs, I'm sure they use a javelin, not a needle.
Picked the van up, and bike looks.....
erm, different. Can't tell 'til I'm fit to pull it apart. Don't think they're tyre marks on the bike, there's rubber everywhere, so I'm assuming its hit some barriers, or whatever, cos its all over the front mudguard, fairing nose and other odd places. I'm sure I'll cry when I see the full extent, especially as they cut my leathers off, and helmet is also trashed. Could be worse, I could be skint. Ah, apparently I am, oh well, there's always 2011. Now, where's that claim form.....

High all, just wanted to say a big thanks to the lads in the photo who lent me a baffle for my GSXR at Oulton to get me through the noise test. It turned my first ever track day from what would have been very short and dissapointing, into a wondeful experience.
They also put me on to this web site and proved to me that bikers are a different breed to most.

Thanks again and hope to see you at another track day soon.

No worries Mikey! That wouldve been myself and my dad Kev(pitcrew on here) glad you got it sorted in the end. I've been there myself and it was a fellow TDR member that helped me out. Get involved in the site! Everyone on here would help out like that!

was this you?

Have a look through Roly's photos too. He's a top photographer and all he asks is for a donation to help the heroes. clap
he's put a link up further up this thread.

Hi Mike, glad you enjoyed your first ever track day and I promise not to wave to you when I undertake ever again!!!  He, He??? Good to see your family where all excited to see you going around at fantastic speeds. Bet you had a few aches and pains the next day?? My right top thigh muscle nearly seized up on me for 2 days after the full day, mostly right handers and using the pegs to help turn the bike in.
See you and your pal soon me hopes! Welcome to the site, always helpful these TDR guys.

Hi everyone

What a great day, this was my first full track day... on a new bike as well (Black KTM Duke2) so started off very tentatively. My nerves and trepadation weren't helped by mate over running on Druids and hitting the tyre wall (Yam XT660X).  The afternoon however it started to come together and I started to feel much more relaxed and enjoy it - the last session in particular was great fun.  What a wonderful circuit and great day and I am now officially hooked!

Hi Gary, welcome to the site. Stick a new thread up in the welcome section and introduce yourself, you'll find it a very useful site and plenty to read and laugh at!

I remember that Duke of yours. Looked like a fun bike to ride!

If it is him, he came out unscathed.
Perhaps he just stopped for a quick wee behind the bales!!
