Topic: PATCHES/NAMES FOR LEATHERS Posted: 19 January 2011 at 21:11 |
Just been looking into getting media for printing and making up nice
'shiny' names/logos for stitching onto leathers etc.....as of now I'm
just testing the demand for these before I buy in the stock to produce
them. Names on leathers seem to cost around £5 per letter ('RogerC' cost
me £25......these will be competitive (read cheaper ...though you'll
still have to get them stitched on). Just checked out lettering prices and they are now £7.00 per letter (single colour) ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS: WEATHERPROOF....YES IT'S A SPECIFIC MATERIAL DESIGNED FOR THINGS SUCH AS MOTOCROSS SEATS/PATCHES/BAR STOOL COVERS ETC.
MATERIAL: FLEXIBLE THICK CLEAR LAMINATED VINYL
The advantage is you can have any design/colour/font combination you like.
If anyone is interested please post here or pm or e mail me at roger596 at hotmail.com
Thanks

Do you have a rough price ?

Would definately be interested myself as long as it's weather proof.
Not sure what design I'd have though.

Answers for: Steve.....price would depend on design and size. I would hope to do them at around £12 each depending on demand and size.
Nottingham Phil....it is a thick vinyl laminate specifically designed for this sort of product. It was developed in the USA for motocross so it's tough.
Copo.......being thick vinyl laminate yes it is waterproof. The design is printed so it is 'sandwiched' between the surfaces front and back so it is not on the surface of the patch.

You can get cheaper at £2 a letter with some manufacturers. Having said that, what you're offering is better because of the possibility of combining colours and motifs. My only concern would be how stiff the decals are i.e. are they going to make bending knees or arms difficult or make the leathers ruck up? I went down the woven patch route for the kangaroo motif decals on my leathers because it looked better than anything that could be done in leather. Cost quite a bit though and if you'd been around two years ago you could have saved me some money!

Hi Philthy....I'm not sure about the 'stiffness' of these as yet...I'm waiting on a sample from the suppliers. Youre right about the colour etc. Basically if it can be printed it should be possible to produce a patch of almost any design......but again until I get a sample I won't really know.
I'll report back once the sample has arrived.

Reply to Philthy et al .....
I've now received the sample from the suppliers and the material is very supple and flexible. Regarding durability.......the best I can tell you is that this material was designed for use on the side panels of Motocross bikes ...originally for the USA indoor supercross series so teams could have even more space for sponsors to buy 'advertising space'. So if it can take the hammering of that environment it should be pretty good for sew on patches/decals.

Hi Slimjim and Spliffy......
Firstly these are sew on patches. I can design if you like but at extra cost....though this will be relatively small amounts.
If is just fancy lettering then this can be done at no extra cost.
All designs carried out by me will be forwarded as a pdf for approval prior to production.
If anyone has a design already in place and the image is high resolution in either pdf/jpeg or other formats which I can use such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel draw then I can use that. Also if anyone has a large image that they need cropping I can work with those as well.

Hi Roger,
I'd be interested in getting some done for the sponsors to go on 3 sets of leathers.
I'll fire something over to you in an email soon, but please let us all know if you are going ahead with doing this.

Hi folks....many thanks to all those who have expressed interest in this product in numbers that make me feel it is something I should go ahead with.......
......I've received the sample from the suppliers and it looks pretty good. It is a flexible thick vinyl laminate (clear top layer and white backing though this might not show through...it all depends on the design) which accepts eco-solvent print.
Remember this product was designed for use in the USA supercross series so it is tough!!
For those wondering whats what this product can be multi colour printed with either your logo/design/name or if you're lucky to have them, I can do sponsor logos as well.
One thing to mention is that THESE REQUIRE SEWING ON....and will best be done by your local leathers shop.
I'll be trialing these in the next week to 10 days to make sure it is up to the standards I require. Once this 'trial' is over...and succesful I will post up here that the product is available to you folks.
